They gave it to someone else.... AFTER hiring me. I was waiting to start training, and then I called just to check up, and I was told that someone else had already started.

I don't even know how to react to this.

Unfortunately I don't have anything in writing, so I pretty much just have to deal with this. They offered me a different job cleaning the deli, but I'm not even going to try with that place anymore.

Well I'll start with sorry. I have seen this happen many times before out here at the casinos. They get "must hires" essentially someone slept with or sucked off someone up top to get either themselves or their kid a job that they rightfully shouldn't have. And when the "Must hire" order comes down the line, you could be the worlds most qualified candidate and it's "Sorry, the position has been filled"

I got hired at a auto factory and everyone told me I was hired to replace a guy with a bad drinking problem, like coming in to work repeatedly pissed drunk. After I had been on the floor and in training for about a week just as I was about to start working by myself I was informed that they were letting me go because the drunk guy wanted his job back.

Seen that plenty of times. Especially the temporary girlfriend. Girl starts as a lowly peon and gets all cozy with the manager, they go out for a couple weeks, girl gets promoted, they stay together another month or two and then break up. It could easily happen with a guy, I've just never seen it.
